Benjamin Wilson
Varsity Head Coach
This is Coach Wilson's 6th season as Head Coach of the Conestoga Girls Varsity Program. Ben took over the program in 2016 having previously head coached the girl's program at the Episcopal Academy and served as a full-time assistant with the women's coaching staffs at Moravian University and Susquehanna University.
During his one year at Episcopal he took a program that was 8-7-1 the previous year and led them to a 15-4-2 overall record and 10-1-1 Inter-Ac record in-route to Inter-Ac Championship and a trip to the PAISSA State Championship match. When the Conestoga position opened-up following the 2015 season Coach Wilson saw this as an opportunity to coach alongside his wife, Katie, who was already on the Stoga staff as JV-B coach and help provide long-term stability to the Conestoga program.
The year prior to Wilson's arrival had been a tough one with only five wins the previous season. In his first season the program swung right back around resulting in a one-loss regular season (Double OT to Pennsbury), and a trip to the PIAA AAAA State Tournament. Since then, the success has continued with three Central League Championships, a District 1 Championship, and three trips to the State Tournament peaking with a Double OT loss in the State Final Match in 2019. In his first five seasons Stoga have a 77-15-10 overall record including playoffs, and 47-4-5 Central League record.
Ben was a two-sport college athlete at Susquehanna University where he competed in both soccer as a central defender and indoor/outdoor track and field as a 400-meter sprinter.
Outside of high school and collegiate coaching he has also served as Assistant Director of Coaching at Phoenixville Area Soccer Club, head coached boy's and girl's teams at Lehigh Valley United, served as Head Soccer Trainer at the Elite Sports Academy in Allentown, and recently began coaching as a member of the Philadelphia Union Youth Coaching Staff.
In 2018 Ben was the recipient of the first-ever "High School Coach of Significance" award for the State of Pennsylvania from the United Soccer Coaches—the largest soccer coaching organization in the USA. This award is given to coaches who "go above and beyond by using their coaching position to teach life lessons and provide opportunities to develop outstanding young men and women." He also was named South-Eastern PA Girls Soccer Coach of the Year in 2019 by the Daily Local News.
In the spring/summer of 2020 Wilson founded his own women's soccer club called Athena SC that fields a WPSL semi-professional/amateur level team primarily made-up of current college players who are home for the summer. Former Conestoga alums, Hannah Morgan (Vanderbilt), Emily Wertz (Susquehanna), Caitlin Donovan (La Salle), McKenzie Coleman (Villanova), Calista Courtney (Rochester), Reese Henderson (Temple), Sophie Koziol (F&M), Kristi Dirico (Gordon), and Alice Regan (Loyola-Maryland Graduate) all lined-up for Athena SC's first season. The club is also beginning community work to offer no-cost camp and clinic opportunities in underserved areas of the Philadelphia Area.
Ben and Katie reside in the Phoenixville Borough with their twin 2-year-old girls, Jane, and Maeve, and their Golden Retriever, Rosie.
